1st Job Shadowing

In May 2019 the 1st Job Shadowing took place in Lima (Peru): two volunteers from
EuroDemos Youth Mobility NGO (Italy) and EuroFRC (Poland) experienced the reality
of the city and the best practices developed by the Hosting Organization, Centro Urbes,
in the framework of environment, urban sustainability, youth work and green
community development.

The timetable combined presentations and technical visits led by Centro Urbes
showing their story, educational approaches, main objectives and latest projects as
“Resilientes” and “#SalvemosLasLomas” Campaign.

Job Shadowers had the opportunity to discuss the impacts of green social
entrepreneurship in Peru with an emphasis on the environmental aspect, being focused
in the challenges, opportunities, access to resources and networks, Governmental
support, and the initiatives in Lima of Centro Urbes’s allies.

As well, the participants visited specific places in Lima to get immersed in the Peruvian
recent history at the LUM Museum (place of memory, tolerance and reconciliation)
learning about the years of terrorism and corruption in our country between 80’s and
2000’s, and to discover our ecosystems around the city, like “Pantanos de Villa”, a
wetland by the ocean that is part of the Natural Protected Areas National System and the
RAMSAR sites, an international agreement for wetlands conservation.

Finally, we visited the Lomas de Amancaes Community, one of the sites of the Lomas’
ecosystem in order to portray and make the Job Shadowers experience the complexity
of the city, their natural spaces and the challenges of community conservation. We
talked with the members of PAFLA (Protectores Ambientales de la Flor y Loma de
Amancaes), a local initiative for conserving the natural heritage that is locally led by
women. This was for sure the place the participants loved the most, where they went up
on the hill with the whole local community.

“If I were a tourist, I would only know the touristic places of Lima, but this opportunity
opened my eyes and now I feel more approach to this city”. – Natalia – Poland
