4th Job Shadowing
In August 2019 the 4th Job Shadowing took place in Reggio Calabria (Italy): two
volunteers from Centro Urbes (Peru) and Global Unity Sumak Kausay (Mexico)
experienced the sustainable projects, initiatives and partners that surround the Southern
Italian area, discovering its green traditions in different aspects.
The weekly agenda has been implemented by combining residential shadowing
moments, partners’ visit and discovering the entire Metro city patrimony and
sustainable plans, especially those oriented to a “km 0” approach and which support
local development and strategic territorial development.
Job Shadowers could meet representatives of the Metropolitan City introducing the
“Reggio in bici” project as well the artistic exhibition at Pinacoteca Civica regarding
agricultural and pastoral life, as well they could experience fishery traditions in the
beautiful town of Scilla and listening to techniques of sustainable, old methods that
fishermen adopt not to hurt the marine environment.
Another special moment has been related to the strategic development which
EuroDemos undertake on the Park d’Aspromonte and its initiatives – also kids and
youth are taking part. As well they could meet the citizens and sustainable approaches
of Bova Marina and Bova Superiore, 2 towns connect by the historical communities of
“Greci di Calabria” who aims to preserve their linguistic and agricultural patrimony.
Another visit included plantations and windmills structures in the mountains, and which
help reducing costs and making life easier.
We also could introduce our local partners, as for example PM Open Lab, a full youth
laboratory made of young entrepreneurs adopting sustainable systems to build and
rebuild society. Apart of it, the University Mediterranea was introduced, and our young
Team at the headquarters.
They had an intensive Job Shadowing, full of experiences and collaborative plans which
we hope they will take inspiration from for applying in Peru and Mexico.
“We can compare the vision between the European countries and Latin American ones
regarding sustainable energies, and how to make a future development plan in which
we no longer depend on the hydrocarbons, and in which we can act very eco
sustainable.”. – Diego, Peru
